Moscow Olympics - Cut The World

Sorry for the lack of updates, but this leak drought has been pretty tough for the past week. Thankfully, I have good friends that look out for me and send me awesome albums I haven't heard of. Case in point: Moscow Olympics' debut album, Cut The World. This quintet is from the Philippines (of all places!) and, while they definitely wear their influences on their sleeves (New Order, Galaxie 500, My Bloody Valentine), they're also able to synthesize such borrowed sounds together in a way that a band like The Radio Dept. is known to do as well. Tracks like "What Is Left Unsaid," No Winter, No Autumn," and "Safe" combine smooth-sounding vocals with deliciously repetitive post-punk guitars that wrap around your brain and refuse to let go. Moscow Olympics may not change your life--especially not with a band name that horrific--but if all you're looking for is some pleasant background noise for a boring summer day, they're definitely a worthwhile distraction.
