Yim Yames - Tribute To EP

Yim Yames (better known as Jim James of My Morning Jacket) has released a solo EP of George Harrison covers available now on his website, with all proceeds going to benefit the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. I'm not sure if James plans to release other Tribute To EP's or just leave it at this one, but either way, fans should be grateful for his decision to release an EP at all. Out of all the current folk singer/songwriters out there, James is definitely a perfect candidate to try out the legendary catalog of George Harrison. In addition to covering four solo tracks, James also tries his hand at two Harrison-penned Beatles songs, including "Long, Long, Long" and "Love You To." These tracks are great, but somehow they don't pack the emotional punch that the solo covers do. James' signature wail sounds excellent on "Behind That Locked Door," and so do the sun-soaked harmonies that build up in the sentimental "My Sweet Lord." Overall, Tribute To is a nice treat for fans of Jim James, as well as those that enjoy Harrison's classic songs.
