Although they're still relatively unknown,
Rose City is actually Viva Voce's fifth album already. The Portland, OR brother and sister duo label-hopped for a few years (from Asthmatic Kitty to Minty Fresh and finally to Barsuk) and eventually caught the attention of bloggers and fans with their excellent 2006 album,
Get Yr Blood Sucked Out. On
Rose City, due out May 26th, Viva Voce combine straightforward indie-pop melodies with dark psychedelic undertones, resulting in an fresh follow-up. "Die A Little" has the guitar tones of Sonic Youth, but the exhuberance of The Rosebuds. Elsewhere, Viva Voce rely on lazy percussion and brooding guitars ("Octavio"), a throaty bass and slick alt-country riffs, with Anita Robinson's folkish vocals ("Good As Gold"), and good 'ole power-pop ("Rose City"). Overall,
Rose City is perfect proof of just how underrated this duo is and why their genre-bending indie-pop deserves more of your attention.

never heard of them before, but they're great! Die A Little is my fave track off the album. Thanks Anna :)
Hey Anna- the link won't work for me! It just keeps saying "error 10"
Never heard them before. I'm digging it. I hear a little Sonic Youth (probably the male/female vox) and some Spoon in the mix. Very atmospheric in places.
