O+S - O+S

For the unaware, O+S is a new band made up of Orenda Fink (Azure Ray, Art In Manila) and Cedric Lemoyne (Remy Zero). On their self-titled debut, which was released last Tuesday, the duo blend Fink's ethereal vocals with Lemoyne's haunting loops and sound manipulations. Upon hearing about this album, I was worried that it would be as boring and uninspired as Fink's solo album and her work with Art In Manila. Fortunately, Lemoyne's pop-based sounds save O+S from dull territory, opening the duo up to bouncy basslines ("Permanent Scar"), woozy keys and vocal harmonies ("Toreador"), and clanging percussion ("Knowing Animals"). Although Fink and Lemoyne seem to be taking chances on their debut, it's clear from several listens that this is the type of pop music that will be confined to the likes of a Grey's Anatomy soundtrack and not much else. If you're a fan of Azure Ray or Fink's other work, it's worth a listen though.
