Although my emo days are long gone, I've always had a soft spot for Brooklyn singer/songwriter, Kevin Devine. On
Brother's Blood, his fifth full length album (due out April 28th), Devine has decided to inject some much-needed pop back into his music after taking it out for 2006's
Put Your Ghost To Rest. I've always enjoyed Devine's strictly folk sound, but there's something so great in his music when he sings as cathartically as he can ("Time To Burn (Another Bag Of Bones)"), uses handclaps to his fullest advantage ("Hand Of God (When You Breathe... Breathe)"), and writes songs that you can't help but sing along to ("Brother's Blood"). If you're more of a fan of Devine's bare-bones acoustic style, the full band sound of
Brother's Blood may not appeal to you. Still, if you've appreciated anything that Devine has released in the past, this album is definitely worth checking out.
