V/A - Score! 20 Years of Merge Records

I'm a sucker for compilation albums...especially when they consist solely of bands I like covering other bands I like. It's pretty much a win-win situation. In the case of Merge Records, they decided to celebrate their 20th anniversary by putting out a comp of newer bands on their roster (and friends) covering songs by classic Merge bands. Just like with any comp, everyone is going to have different favorites depending on which bands you like the best, so keep that in mind. Quasi starts the comp off sweetly, with an excellent cover of the 3 Ds song, "Beautiful Things." From there, things only get better with Les Savy Fav doing Superchunk's "Precision Auto," St. Vincent and The National teaming up for the Crooked Fingers song "Sleep All Summer," and Broken Social Scene rocking the fuck out of The Clean's "Complications." Although this compilation is solid, it is pretty lengthy (over an hour long), but that's really a small price to pay for so many good bands together on one album. If you're a fan of Merge Records at all, this compilation is a must-have download.
