You may remember Los Angeles' Earlimart for their Sonic Youth build-ups or Elliott Smith sweetness. Although they've been around since 1999, the trio is still relatively unknown in most circles. Perhaps their lo-fi chamber pop sound will cause more of a stir on
Hymn And Her, the group's sixth album due out on July 1st. What Earlimart lacks in driving guitars, they make up for in the elegant grace of their melodies. Each track on
Hymn And Her lazily floats through the listener's mind, some grounded in hazy undertones ("Before It Gets Better"), others bubbling up with classic folk-rock charm ("For The Birds"). There are definitely moments on
Hymn And Her when even Earlimart themselves get a bit lost within their own shoegaze layers, and it's hard not to zone out for a few tracks. Fortunately, a good handful of creative tracks save the record from going too far into shoegaze land, but that still doesn't mean that
Hymn And Her is going to be the best record you'll hear this year. By no means is it a bad record, but sadly, it doesn't seem to have enough staying power to make Earlimart a household name in the indie community.

Their previous two albums were better. I'd recommend people start there and then get this one if they feel like it. Mentor Tormentor was really overlooked last year.
can't stand this band, and i'm not sure my opinion is going to change from such a terribly titled album.
if anyone sees Halstead's 'OH! MIGHTY ENGINE' - do tell and link.
to the anonymous blah-typers: "all they ever do is talk".
this shit is shit, yo!
