No Age - Losing Feeling EP

If you listen to No Age's first album, 2007's Weirdo Rippers, and then follow it up with this EP, it's amazing how far their sound has come. No longer all about being as noisy as possible, No Age's new EP, Losing Feeling, confirms that they also love a little bit of melody and reflective ambient sounds with their noise too. The title track combines a wall of shoegaze sound with chiming, reverb guitars that give the song an underwater feel. The next song, "Genie," sounds more like No Age's Round Robin tourmates, Deerhunter, than it does the Los Angeles duo, with its plaintive vocals and fuzzed-out, spacey riffs. A sound effect-laden instrumental, "Aim At The Airport," follows, but the real standout of this EP is its last song, "You're A Target," a fine return to No Age's classic sound with chugging riffs, ear-splitting drums, and a great refrain of: "If you're a target / than I guess I'm one too." If this EP is evidence of what No Age's next album is going to sound like, prepare yourself for another inspiring effort from one of the most inventive bands out there.
