Remember Deer Tick? Of course you do, they have been on the collective music blog radar since late 2007 when their debut album,
War Elephant, was released. Last year,
War Elephant was reissued and Deer Tick opened for [insert your favorite band here] and now their second album,
Born On Flag Day, is due out on June 23rd. Featuring singer/guitarist John McCauley's signature gruff vocals,
Flag Day combines a laid-back Americana vibe with well-written folk melodies that Conor Oberst totally wishes he could steal for his next Mystic Valley Band album. Do yourself a favor and check out the jangly mess of guitars on "Easy," or the gorgeous swelling of strings on "Smith Hill," or the bluesy romp on "Straight Into A Storm," all proof that Deer Tick definitely deserve the critical acclaim that has been thrown in their direction. If you're a fan of bands that sound like they brush their teeth with whiskey, Deer Tick's
Born On Flag Day is more than worth your time.

I saw them open for Jenny Lewis last week and they were awesome. "Anybody out there feel like guzzling beers tonight? Meet me on the mezzanine after this". Direct quote from the lead singer. This is good stuff.
Deer Tick's bassist is totally dreamy.
That's all.
These guys are great. I heard their cover of "Still Crazy After All These Years" on Aquarium Drunkard and got hooked. Thanks for the leak!
Digging this album. The only problem is that the first track is the best IMO, so the rest of the songs don't quite live up to the beginning of the album. Still, it's one of the better releases I've heard this year.
