There's a billion indie-pop bands out there using the same chords and charm that Bishop Allen use, and yet, there's something about the Brooklyn band that makes me want to jump up and down like a little kid whenever I hear them. On their latest album,
Grrr..., Bishop Allen continue on with the jubilant pop they nailed down so perfectly with 2007's
The Broken String. Although
Grrr... doesn't contain any songs as commercial sounding as
The Broken String's "Click, Click, Click, Click," Bishop Allen are still masters at writing the perfect pop song. Need evidence? Check out the slow rumble and bursting chorus on "South China Moon," the jangly guitars on "Oklahoma," the calming female harmonies on "True Or False," or the western-romp, "Cue The Elephants," all fitting examples of Bishop Allen's knack at being one of the best indie-pop bands out there today.
Grrr... will appeal to all Bishop Allen fans and anyone else that likes their music a bit on the quirky side.
