Mogwai - Batcat EP

For those of you that are eagerly anticipating the new Mogwai album, The Hawk Is Howling, due out on September 23rd, you can breathe a little bit easier now with the release of the Batcat EP, a three-song appetizer to the full length that is to be released two weeks prior to it. Featuring two non-album tracks and another song with a guest appearance from Roky Erickson, the Batcat EP serves as a nice treat to those of us that have been waiting for new music from Mogwai ever since the release of Mr. Beast back in 2006. The instrumental title track kicks things off with lumbering metal riffs and pounding drums, showing that Mogwai have still got what it takes to melt your brain down to mush. The unfortunately titled song, "Stupid Prick Gets Chased by the Police and Loses His Slut Girlfriend," follows and is a bit better than the song title would lead you to believe, but it's really the third track, "Devil Rides," that rings the loudest on this EP. Roky Erickson's vocal contributions mesh perfectly with Mogwai's slow-burner guitars and soft percussion, capping off the Batcat EP on a great note and leaving fans that much more excited for The Hawk Is Howling.

They are pretty incredible though.

Even as an unapologetic leak downloader I couldn't download Cox's demos. It felt so wrong. I bet every follower of his blog felt the same way.

rotch, i disagree.

i just downloaded weird era cont and it's incredible solid. and i don't feel guilty by enjoy it. in fact i'm really happy that all the buzz around it was true. this is a huge extra for a good-to-great album.

the thing is if people really felt so bad about the cox episode. why they still listen leaks? why in your blog, rotch, is the high places' leak, for example.

this cox situation has turned into a cynical game. the bloggers and posters love this vicious anxiety circle that never stops... and until the same people stop promoting and downloading the leaks -not this leak, ANY leak-, we could say "oh, this is wrong". will this happen soon? i dunno.

i'm sorry that bradford's plan doesn't end the way he wanted, but the damage is done and there's no point to return. the only thing we could do is buying microcastle when the cd is out. he deserves it.

can you post the new Lights Out Asia album called "Eyes Like Brontide"?

Point taken. I really don't have a strong argument. Just a personal feeling. Felt sorry because Logos was stolen right from under his nose and it was going to be a free album anyway. But I totally agree with your points anon.
