For their ANTI Records debut,
Shame, Shame, Dr. Dog were quoted as saying that they wanted to try and capture the energy of their live sound on the album. While many bands have tried to achieve just that over the years, Dr. Dog are actually able to pull it off on their sixth full length. From the scratchy, unpolished tone of Scott McMicken and Toby Leaman's vocals on "Stranger," to the jangly percussion of "Shadow People," it's clear that Dr. Dog put a lot of thought into the recording process for
Shame, Shame. Instead of utilizing their (likely) bigger ANTI budget and cleaning up their sound, Dr. Dog come across as more rougher around the edges than they ever have before. Lyrically speaking, the album comes across as more personal and intimate than their past efforts, touching upon darker subjects on songs like "Jackie Wants A Black Eye" and "Station." Overall,
Shame, Shame is a fantistic follow-up to 2008's
Fate and will definitely appeal to longtime fans.
