Caribou - Swim

It's been three years since we last heard from Caribou (aka Dan Snaith), when he released the Polaris Prize winning Andorra in 2007. On April 19th, Snaith will release his next album, Swim. Upon listening to Swim it's clear that Snaith has been influenced by dance music over the past few years, going so far as to incorporate it into his sound. Opening track "Odessa" sounds like a Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem hybrid and is sure to be one of the strongest songs of 2010. As Swim progresses, Snaith tries his hand at electro-pop ("Sun"), glitchy ballads ("Found Out"), and, uh, a harp instrumental ("Bowls"). There are definitely some good moments on Swim, but the album also jumps to so many different genres that it leaves me wishing Snaith had picked one and stuck to it instead of being so schizophrenic. Still, it does speak to his high level of creativity, and longtime fans of Caribou should definitely download this album.
