Real Estate - Reality EP

One would think that a lot of early 2010 leaks would have surfaced by now, but so far everything I've heard hasn't been worth reviewing. Thankfully Real Estate is closing out 2009 with a bang, and a new EP titled Reality, due out December 18. With 2010 poised to be the year this New Jersey quartet achieves even more acclaim and success, it only makes sense that they would throw another release out to accompany their recently released self-titled full length. The Reality EP is a bit more subdued than the album, if that's even possible, starting off with an acoustic instrumental ("Motorbikes") and then the soft percussion and hazy melodies of "Basement." Things get more interesting with "Saturday Morning," a woozy, reverb-drenched instrumental, but then settle back into familiar Real Estate territory with the crashing cymbals and fuzzy vocals of "Younger Than Yesterday." That's not to say that this EP is bad by any means, but unless you're a diehard fan, you're better off just sticking to their full length.
