Decibully - World Travels Fast

Everyone has those bands that they try and get all their friends to like. Milwaukee's Decibully is one of mine. However, you may be familiar with them already from years of consistent touring and two full lengths out on Polyvinyl. This time around though, the six-piece is venturing out on their own, opting to release their third album, World Travels Fast, without the help of a label. Although they may not be a household name, Decibully made the right choice by staying a free agent, as World Travels Fast is a powerful and confidant-sounding record that stands out on its own. Opening with the crisp loud to soft dynamics of "Broken Glass," World Travels Fast is a very well-paced album. Each song carries its own weight well, not allowing one section to fully take over. Decibully has always been a band that relies heavily on the subtleties in their music, and World Travels Fast is certainly no exception to that. There's the bouncy piano and interweaving guitar melody on "Don't Believe The Hype," the atmospheric effects and soft slide guitar of "Little White Girl," and the last minute of "Hour Of Noise," with what sounds like a singing saw and a cacophony of other peculiar noises.

Speaking of oddities, halfway through the album, Decibully venture off a bit into experimental territory, with the minute and a half long "Get In The Car" that races out of the gate with its catchy riffs and spirals off into "Let's Not Fight," a creative track that features echoed vocals up against a wall of sound, which eventually gives way to muffled singing and drum machine-esque programming. A few tracks later, "Somewhere In The World" brings the album back into standard poppy folk-rock pastures with a driving chorus and a beat that begs to be drummed along with. Although four years have passed since Decibully's previous album, Sing Out America!, was released, one listen to World Travels Fast will shake any notion of this band being past their prime. Containing some of their most well-written songs to date, World Travels Fast is a must have download for fans and any newcomers as well.
