!!! - Strange Weather, Isn't It?

Phew, back from a long blogging break, and I have a bunch of new albums that have leaked over the past few weeks for you to check out, starting off with !!!'s latest, Strange Weather, Isn't It? The Brooklyn dance-punkers have endured a lot over the past year, from the death of former drummer, Jerry Fuchs, to better things like their last album, 2007's Myth Takes, launching them further into the mainstream. Strange Weather further refines !!!'s dancey sound, as they lose the punk edge that they relied on so much with Myth Takes. Instead, !!! punch up the sultry rhythms ("AM/FM") and bouncy beats ("The Most Certain Sure"), creating an album that is as suitable for the dance floor as it is for a teenager's next make-out playlist. Although I found myself missing Nic Offer's signature attitude-laden vocals at first, the music on most of the album makes up for that with its brash tone, specifically with the sharp cymbal hits of "Wannagain Wannagain," the snakey guitar rhythms (and badass song title) of "Jamie, My Intentions Are Bass," and the saxaphone and percussion breakdown of "Steady As The Sidewalk Cracks." Overall, Strange Weather may take several listens before it really sinks in, but once you "get it," you'll realize that it truly ranks at the top of !!!'s discography.
