Best Coast - Crazy For You

Just in time for the second half of the summer, Best Coast's debut album, Crazy For You, has finally surfaced. The hotly anticipated record takes the lo-fi sound that bands like the Vivian Girls popularized and instead fits it with a west coast, '60s surfer attitude. Frontwoman Bethany Cosentino is the brains behind the group, singing about boys, boys, and yeah, boys again, under the gentle crush of trebley guitars and doo-wop melodies. Surprisingly, Cosentino's infatuation on the opposite sex doesn't tire after twelve tracks and thirty minutes; it only makes you want to press 'play' on track one all over again. Cosentino's grasp of pop music that is so simple--and yet, so fresh sounding--is the formula behind Best Coast's infectious sound. The other factor that makes Best Coast so appealing is how incredibly relatable Cosentino's lyrics are. On "Goodbye," she moans about losing her job, missing her mom, and wishing her cat could talk, revealing that "Nothing makes me happy / Not even TV or a bunch of weed." I dare you to find me a twenty-something that can't relate to at least one part of those lyrics. Crazy For You is a gem of an album that marks the beginning of Best Coast's reign over the lo-fi scene. If you're looking for a great record to close out your summer, Best Coast just answered your plea.

this is not one of your better picks Anna. A little repetitious and not as good as Vivian Girls
