Rocky Votolato - True Devotion

I've been enjoying Rocky Votolato since his 2003 album, Suicide Medicine. Although he may be a bit older now, his music hasn't suffered at all from old age. On True Devotion, his sixth album due out on February 23rd, Votolato strips down his sound to focus mainly on his guitar and voice--relying on his own talents rather than a full band sound. With the quiet intricate strumming on "Sparklers" and the the foot-stomping catharsis of "Red River," it's clear that this was a smart decision on Votolato's part. A true family man, married for over ten years with two daughters, Votolato also writes lyrics directed to his loved ones. The refrain of "I just want to come home again" mixed with stirring harmonica on "Instrument" is an example of how Votolato does so much with so little. If you've been a fan of Votolato's previous albums, True Devotion's stripped-down style will definitely be up your alley.
