The Radio Dept. - Clinging To A Scheme

I've been a fan of The Radio Dept. ever since I first heard them on the soundtrack for Sofia Coppola's film, Marie Antoinette, in 2006. It's taken them four years to get back into the scene with Clinging To A Scheme, their follow-up album to 2006's Pet Grief, but one listen to their new album proves that it was definitely worth the wait. Trading in some of their ambient inclinations for dancey beats ("Heaven's On Fire"), spoken word bits ("Never Follow Suit"), and actual guitars ("The Video Dept."), Clinging To A Scheme may be The Radio Dept.'s most diverse album to date. Of course, they haven't abandoned their love for ambient soundscapes altogether, as is evidenced by the brooding (mostly) instrumental, "A Token of Gratitude" and the woozy feedback of "Four Months In The Shade." It's a shame that these Swedes haven't gotten much recognition to date, but this album is certainly poised to change that.
